What are KDIs?
KDIs (or Key Developmental Indicators) are the standard goals that most HighScope early childhood educators use to set up their classroom's curriculum and environment. In the HighScope curriculum, educators strive to include as many KDIs in each activity and game they include in their students' play to ensure that everyone learns and grows in their classroom. The KDIs also help educators focus on finding way to help children grow through exploration and hand-on learning, thus drawing children to knowledge and growth through positive and educational interactions.
The different KDIs includes approaches to learning, cognitive development, communication, language, and literacy, creative arts, mathematics, physical development and health, science and technology, social and emotional development, and social studies. To learn more about each KDI, how it benefits the children's learning environment, and what materials you can use to encourage these KDIs, click on the KDI on the left. Or you can hover your mouse over that KDI to find a multitude of activities that you can implement for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
