Creative ARts
"The ability to represent allows the child to change a concrete experience into another form, to transform it" (Post, Hohmann, and Epstein 53)
As a preschool teacher, I can honestly say that I've rarely met a child who doesn't like using art materials. Children love using paint, markers, scissors, glue, glitter, play dough, and clay. However, the problem with most arts and crafts projects you find on Pinterest is that they don't allow the children to explore these materials on their own. Even if the children get messy, and even if you don't think their particular project ends up looking beautiful, letting a children use their imagination when creating projects is one of the greatest services you can perform. Give your children a chance to explore materials and watch their imagination grow wild.
Activities that focus on developing children's creativity help children to express and represent their feelings and thoughts through various mediums such as paint, clay, music, movement, dance, and pretend play, and to help children learn to appreciate the creative arts.
Materials for the classroom: crayons, markers, color pencils, play dough, scissors, glitter glue, feathers, dress-up clothes, kitchenette, kitchen tools, empty spice containers, paint (red, blue, yellow), scotch tape, magazines
